Don't be THAT person!

It's that time again.  Have you decided what your New Year's Resolution will be?  If it's fitness, let me give you a few pointers on succeeding and reaching your health and fitness goals.

1. Set SMART (Specific/Measurable/Attainable/Realistic/Timely) goals.  What does losing weight mean to you?  How much?  What is eating healthy? Are you going to add a carrot a day?  If you haven't been to the gym in ages or only go once in awhile, what makes you think you are going to begin a 5-day-a-week routine? Start with 2 days a week, hopefully the same time frame.  If you continue going 2 days a week for over a month, then add a week.  I don't want you to feel frustrated because you can't make it those 5 days.

2.  Think of hiring a personal trainer BEFORE you workout.  Too many times I've heard, "I'm going to get in shape before seeing a trainer."  This is not that way it should be attempted.  Personal trainers have the knowledge to help you with exercise form, goal setting, understanding movements, and application of exercises.

3.  Be PATIENT!  It may have taken a few years to be at the weight you are.....it's going to take more than 2 months to get it off ;-)  A lot has changed since you were in high school/college-responsibilities.  We have to adjust to them however we forget that the body changes to.

Here are a few facts about New Year's Resolutions and those who set health and fitness goals.

Percent of people who are successful in achieving their resolution-8%

Percent who have infrequent success-49%

Percent who never succeed and fail on their resolution each year-24%
