The little things....

Well, I'm a bit late in posting this, it's a bit crazy. I think EVERYONE can benefit from these little tips to move through their day with food, workouts, and the daily grind. I have not only used this myself, but also with clients....it works! Try to to work some of these into your routine and let me know what you think. Did it work or didn't work? Have you tried something different?

1. PROBLEM: Portion control!
SOLUTION: Eat with a smaller utensil OR choose a smaller plate!

2. PROBLEM: Overeating
SOLUTION: Dish out a small helping of food on plate, cover and store rest of food right away! Don't leave it out. If our eyes see it, then we think we want it. Remember that it takes about 10-20min for our food to settle, so give your stomach some time.

3. PROBLEM: Hungry?
SOLUTION: Your body is CONSTANTLY using water as a rebuilding tool. You don't need to sweat to use up water. Your cells are using it, as well as joints and blood. Drink a glass of water before you reach for that cracker. The water will fill you up more and you probably needed it. Ever feel lethargic after some time? Drink up!

4. PROBLEM: Don't know if you can workout?
SOLUTION: Pack your bag ahead of time and keep it in the car. Always keep a spare set of workout clothes with you..hey, you never know.

5. PROBLEM: I can't relax!
SOLUTION: Leave a half hour before bed to unwind. DON'T DO ANYTHING! Read a book or just lay in bed and pay attention to your breathing. You can even try 4-square breathing: Breath in for a 4c, hold 4c, exhale 4c, hold for 4c-repeat. I did this last week; look for the simple innocent things. I found a Redskins sticker of an Indian head covering up his face-it made me chuckle. Better yet, it's January and there was a child outside my gym who decided to stop, get on his hands and knees on the sidewalk, and smell the pansies! What happened to that innocence? Truly stop and smell the "flowers" in your day.

  1. Weird - I think I've experienced every problem and tried all solutions ... some I forgot about, thanks for the reminder! Another problem is eating unhealthy snacks / stuff in general. My solution - don't buy it. If it's not in the house I won't be tempted.
